Lacing - with Nëya and Kameko

ABOUT

Lacing

Lacing is a very powerful yet underestimated technique in all of the aspects: emotions, technique and aesthetics. Let’s take a deep dive and explore all of these aspects, together.

Emotions

We will focus on how lacing can feel both for riggers as well as for models. Slowly covering bodies with more and more rope, a feeling of drowning or getting buried can occur. On the other side of the spectrum, lacing can extend the feeling of embrace, love and care, with each additional layer. When lacing the chest even the breath restriction might be something to play with.

Technique

There are many options on how to actually lace the body. We will apply those to tie hands in front and behind the back (armbinder/strappado), legs (agura and mermaid) and full body as well. For most part we will stay on the floor but we will explore partials as well, loading the laced harnesses is adding a lot to play with.

Aesthetics

We can tie in symmetrical ways that can be single or double layered on each level even playing a bit more decoratively OR on the opposite side there is chaos that can look nice and neat or as messy as we like. The sky's the limit here.

Overall, switching during this workshop will be possible. Bring as many ropes as you own as some exercises might require a surprising amount of rope. Do not underestimate how demanding lacing can be on index fingers of the riggers, take care of your hands, moisturise them properly and bring some plasters just in case.

Teachers:

Nëya - Rigger and model from Czech republic, who has been a part of the educators team of Prague-based Subspace studio since 2019. Nëya is interested in multiple styles, both from a technical and an aesthetic point of view. However, she likes improvising and using bamboo in her ties the most.

Even after years of being an educator, she still keeps in mind that there is always something to learn in shibari, and she actively learns not only in Czechia, but these days mostly abroad.

Kameko - has been doing shibari since 2015. She originally started as a model, but today she engages in both sides of the rope and focuses on self-tying (tying herself). She is known for her playfulness and unpredictability, and she likes to reflect the mood that her partner brings to the session. She actively educates herself in rope bottoming and shares her experiences in her workshops. Her main tying partner is Nëya.
